You heard it here first…the Silver Slipper Casino Hotel located on the shores of the Gulf in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi will host the inaugural Silver Slipper World Meat Pie Eating Championship on Saturday, March 5, 2016.
John N. Ferrucci, General Manager for the Silver Slipper Casino Hotel, said â??This event gives us an opportunity to showcase the Silver Slipper Casino Hotel to visitors from around the country.â? The beachside event will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is free and open to the public.
The official contest, hosted and sanctioned by Major League Eating, is scheduled for 2 p.m. when Silver Slipper will host a party of sorts with live entertainment, starting at noon, by Rockinâ?? Dopsie Jr & The Zydeco Twisters. Food and drinks will be available for purchase and attendees are encouraged to bring their own folding chairs, as seating will be limited.
The event is not only an eating competition, but is also a tribute to the late Boyd Bulot, a Chalmette, LA area son and reigning World Meat Pie record holder, as well as a great friend to the Silver Slipper and a colorful professional eater in his own right. His World Record of sixteen 6-ounce meat pies in 10 minutes will be on the line. Should it fall to another competitor, it will fall with the full blessing of the Bulot family who will be on hand to crown the new record holder.
This Major League Eating event will have nationally ranked competitors traveling from near and far to compete for a share of the $5,000 prize money. Staying true to the original 2003 Meat Pie Eating Championship, contestants will be eating 6-ounce meat pies made by the Natchitoches Meat Pie Company.
